Understanding Photoshop for Photography - October 2017 - COMPLETED
A 4 week course on Thursday nights at the Platform 3 studio in Academy St.
Each class will be 2 hours duration and will start at 7.30pm sharp.
Dates will be - Starting Thursday October 5th 2017
Mike is a highly experienced user of Photoshop and has been using it since before digital photography became mainstream. Photoshop is an extremely complex application - This course is designed to simplify things and to give photographers a "Road Map" as to how to use Photoshop to get the best out of their photos.
Mike has a specific workflow which has served him well for many years and has been adjusted as Photoshop [and digital cameras] has developed over time. This course will work through this workflow explaining the "Hows" and "Whys" so that participants will not only feel more confident working on their images but will understand why they are doing things.
Designed to save you time!
This is not a course for doing high-end digital manipulation, although various techniques for cloning, copying, retouching, replacing etc will be demonstrated - its is designed to give you the best advice on how to get the absolute best out of the images you make in a consistent and correct manner. It should teach you how to get the maximum from your images in the minimum of time and with the minimum of fuss.
In this course you will learn:
Best workflow practices for editing your Raw or Jpeg images - and why to shoot Raw or Jpeg anyway.
Using and understanding profiles.
Understanding the digital information in your photographs and how this is shown in the info provided by Photoshop.
Tools and functionality of Photoshop. Using Levels, Curves, Hue/Saturation and other adjustments etc.
Using Layers in your workflow.
Dodging and Burning.
Tips and tricks for improving your photos.
Understanding colour casts - removing them and adding them.
Using Actions and how to set them up.
Preparing images for print output - Dimensions, sizing, sharpening etc. - we will do a print demo too at the end of the course to show a finished image.
Participants who use Lightroom or Photoshop Elements may find this course equally rewarding. Many Photoshop functions are available in Lightroom and you will see the differences. Photoshop Elements users will have a limited amount of functions by comparison but may also benefit from seeing full Photoshop in action and the advantages it offers.
Participants should bring their laptops with them to each class which MUST HAVE a valid version of Photoshop on it - CS5 onwards is fine. Mike will demonstrate everything on screen at the classes and participants can follow the workflow using the images provided.
A PDF of course notes will be provided to all participants.
